Why many of us need wisdom
    tooth removal

The last set of teeth to grow in are the wisdom teeth, which are large molars that grow in the back of the mouth (two on the top, and two on the bottom). For most people, they grow during the late teen years and early adult years.

Wisdom teeth often grow in too close to the adjacent molars, so it is better to remove them sooner rather than later. This can reduce or prevent complications down the road, such as overcrowding, misalignment, improper bite, greater likelihood of gum disease, and increased difficulty in removal. Completely impacted wisdom teeth may grow at different angles along the jaw or even toward the back of the mouth.

If you have a large jaw, you may have no trouble with wisdom teeth, but for most of us they can cause problems. Thanks to X-ray images, dentists can watch the progress and position of wisdom teeth growth as a teen ages, and make recommendations for treatment.

    The extraction process

Depending on the positioning of the impacted tooth and your needs, we’ll administer local anesthesia or dental sedation prior to the surgery. Dissolvable stitches are then placed at the site of the extraction. Depending on the severity of the issue you may want to have a friend or family member be on hand to drive you home.

    After the procedure

We’ll be honest with you: there will need to be a healing process after we remove your wisdom teeth. The length of the process will depend on the exact way your wisdom teeth are trapped.

We’ll guide you every step of the way, and show you know how to ensure a smooth healing process. We’ll also prescribe antibiotics and mouth rinses to further ensure trouble-free healing.
